Eight Weeks to Eight Months
An update on Moose’s growth.
When I brought Moose home in August, he was eight weeks old and eleven pounds (top photo). Now, he is eight months old and fifty-six pounds (bottom photo), and has caught up with Ringo in size. Moose is still quite lanky so he has some filling out to do, and if he continues growing at the same pace, he’ll be surpassing both Rocky and Ringo in size soon.
Moose has grown in other ways too, graduating from puppy school in November and beginning an intermediate dog training class in January. The intermediate class is much more challenging than the puppy class, and I’m anxious about the final exam, which takes place at the end of the month.
Of course Moose is not worried about it at all. His Sunday training class is just a fun day with a car ride, lots of treats and time with new friends. I need to take a cue from him and just enjoy the ride without concern for the destination.
Still Best Friends
The bond between Rocky and Ringo endures.
Before Moose joined the pack, it was just Rocky and Ringo who had quickly become best friends less than a year earlier. As the middle-dog in the pack, Ringo acts as a bridge between Rocky and Moose, serving as both little and big brother, respectively. He balances his position in the pack gracefully, playing a leadership role with Moose while remaining best friends with Rocky. I was concerned that adding a third dog to the mix would diminish their relationship, but Rocky and Ringo are still best friends.❤️
Rocky Gets Four Wheel Drive
Rocky shows off his new prosthetic leg.
Rocky can do amazing things on three legs. His agility, strength and athleticism would be impressive for a four-legged dog. Even when working as a team, Ringo and Moose cannot take him down. But all of the physical activity that he loves, comes with wear and tear to his single front leg. Luckily, through the wonders of 3-D printing technology, custom prosthetics can support dogs like Rocky who have a full front leg amputation.
Rocky received his custom prosthetic in November which will take some of the pressure off the single front leg. The idea is to extend the life of his front leg which will ultimately extend his lifespan. This is not something he will wear all of the time, but it can be worn during walks so that he can go a bit further and for longer periods of time.
Being the champ that he is, he took to the new device almost immediately and is quickly getting acclimated to using it. And he looks pretty badass in blaze orange! ❤️
